Saturday’s Australian brought a feature article titled “True blue tales”, by Rosemary Sorensen, on popular history writing and publishing. A publisher and three writers of popular history were interviewed. Popular history, defined by the journalist and her interviewees as encompassing “story-telling”, “sleuthing”, “chronicles” and “narratives”, is set up in opposition to academic history.
